A cooperative program between Business New Brunswick. fruit producers and the Department of Agriculture established a program in 1998 where various fruits, honey and maple syrup could be distilled or vinted to create schnapps ciders and wines. Although various products were produced the program was known as a winery program. New Brunswick Liquor and the Liquor Licensing Department of Public Safety were consulted on how to license and distribute the product on the retail level. By the end of 1998 a policy framework for New Brunswick wineries was established.
