Fiesta Buckhorn: The Wine Show of Cottage Country
Picture - Buckhorn Community Centre
Fiesta Buckhorn is a food and wine exhibition that is held in late July to fund the activites of the
Buckhorn Community Centre.
This centre is located in the Hamlet of Buckhorn 30 minutes north of Peterborough and is part of the
Trent Severn Waterway.
It has grown steadily since it's inception in 1997 and we have had the pleasure to have had my own table here one year. Thanks to a certain Little Fat Wino we got to meet nice people including Klaus Reif (Reif Estates Winery) and Richard Best
(The Frugal Oenophile).
In general I tend to not recomennd going to wine shows because my experience has been that they tend to be too crowded and expensive with someone always monopolising the time of the winemaker not allowing you to have a chance. I havn't had that problem here and that it is why this section exists.
Picture - Admission Entrance to Fiesta Buckhorn
In 2004 admission was 10 dollars per person and it included an engraved tasting glass (with the Firsta Buckhorn logo on it and six tasting tickets to sample wine and foods.) Sample tickets were 2 for a dollar. Our experience has been that the majority of samples would cost 2 or three tickets (wine or Food) with some (ie ice wine) going as high as 5 or 6 tickets. Costs do increase over time and eventually they will here but it would still be a very inexpensive outing to sample outstanding wine and food.

The brown buildings in the background house many of the food and wine exhibiters. There are 11 of them placed along an oval pathway. These bulidings are behind the main hall which is on the right. You can see it in the next picture.
Picture - Main Hall
This building houses many booths for wine and food tasting but it also hosts a section where all the wine writers sit and sell their books. There is also a room where the writers conduct free wine seminars for the public.
Picture - Inside Main Hall
This is a typical number of patrons sampling in the main hall. Notice it is much more crowded than the previous pictures. They were taken just a little past opening. We found that if you arrive right at opening time you have the run of the place for the first couple of hours.

They did have booths here. There was also a voluntary breath analyzer for drivers who were concerned about the amount of wine they tasted or just curious in how it worked.
