Kawartha Country Wines

Picture - Tasting Room and Gift Shop Kawartha Country Wines
After Fiesta Buckhorn we checked out Kawartha Country wines located on County Road 36 just north of Buckhorn (between Buckhorn and Flynn's Corner on the way to Bobcaygeon). It is five minutes away from the food and beverage festival. They feature 60 different locally sourced fruit wines and some grape from Niagara (and Kawartha's hopefully). The cabin was constructed in 1866 by an original pioneer family.

John was extremely friendly to us during our visit and were made to feel welcome. He told us he knew a certain little fat wino who was extremely helpful to him in setting up the winery and he hoped that he would be able to source some local Kawartha grown grapes so he could make a small batch of Kawathas Wine.

John's philosophy is simple "Great wines, for all occasions can be made from Ontario Fruit".

We tasted rhubard nectarine and apricot wines. They were great as summer coolers when mixed with mineral water.

John has years of practical experience and the study of enology makes him well prpeared to be a winemaker.

John is not afraid to try new and creative methods of winemaking.

The winery is located on a scenic 22 acre lot which is planted with apples, pears, several varieties of raspberries, rhubarb and grapes. There are also many stately maple trees which are used to produce maple syrup ice wine.
If you get a chance to get a chance to go to Fiesta Buckhorn drop in here afterwards. I know we will.
